We’ve seen in previous weeks that competition can be fierce within our top 30 lists. This week is no exception. In our most recent update to our ‘Top 30 Irish Hotels on Facebook’, we can see that 4 hotels have moved up the list (some by quite a few places) and we also have a new entrant who have rocketed straight in at number 10.

In a further push to become more dynamic, Facebook announced that they would be introducing a universal “like” button. The announcement was made at Facebook’s F8 Developers Conference. Facebook users (of which there are many!) will now be able to “like” any website on the internet with a “like” button. Further to this, Facebook will collect the “like” data, creating a data goldmine which they are sure to make good use of.

Good news for Facebook users – your profiles are set to become a lot more dynamic. Facebook are in the process of rolling out new profile features which will allow users to display the pages they’re connected to as ‘likes or interests’. This announcement coincides with Facebooks move to ‘liking’ Pages instead of becoming a ‘fan’ which was first introduced in March.

Google have just activated a new improvement to their real-time search function. Starting from today, users will not only be able to search all the real-time content out there (from Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and Buzz) but will be able to sort the tweets by the time at which they were posted. This handy new feature will allow users to see what people were talking about at a specific moment in time as far back as the first tweet on March 21st 2006.

Yes, it’s true…Facebook is now officially bigger than Google. A recent report by Experian Hitwise recently revealed that Facebook has overtaken Google as the most popular site on the internet. However, this doesn’t mean that you should abandon Google as a means of online marketing for your hotel. It still remains true that, when people want to book a hotel, Google and other such search engines are still the first port of call.
