At last week’s PhoCusWright conference in Los Angeles, TripAdvisor CEO Steve Kaufer remained hopeful that major OTAs will decide to participate with its Instant Book service. Kaufer said, Instant Booking is changing every week, and as some changes happen maybe some big OTAs will say it looks a bit more like what we want to participate in.

A Meta-Search Engine is a search engine that searches other search engines. For example, a meta-search engine submits a query (search term) to numerous other search engines (Google, Yahoo, Bing etc…), and returns a summary of the results. TripAdvisor rankings are based on their own metric called “The Popularity Index,” a proprietary algorithm that determines rankings based on the quantity, quality and frequency of reviews for any given property. But how, exactly does ranking translate to room nights?
