For quite some time we’ve all been predicting that the future of social networking is mobile. New stats have revealed just how close this is to becoming a reality.
comScore recently published some quite astonishing statistics regarding social networking on mobile phones. The report looks at mobile social networking usage in Jan 2010 and compares it to statistics for usage in Jan 2009. The shock is not that it has increased from last year (you don’t have to be Nostradamas to predict that!), it is how much it has increased that has created some tremors.
The stats revealed that Facebook usage on mobile phones has risen 112%. This is a huge increase, bringing the number of people using facebook mobile up to 25,137,000. Even more shocking than this is that Twitter mobile usage has risen an amazing 347%, bringing the mobile usage figure up to 4,700,000 for twitter.
While these numbers may seem low in comparison to the total number of users on each network (11.1% of total users access their social network on their mobile phone), it is the rate of change that we should be paying attention to.
The mobile internet revolution is really on our doorstep, and it wants to come in! Now is the time to get prepared!
